Born and raised in Italy. BSc in Geology and MSc (with Laude) in soil gas geochemistry at University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1991. PhD in 1993 at Pierre et Marie Curie (noble gas geochemistry supported by a EU fellowship). From 1994 to 1998 EU-JSPS joint postdoctoral fellow at Osaka University. 1998-1999 postdoctoral Marie Curie UE fellow at Paris XI and then assistant professor until 2004 in the same university. From 2004, Professor at Université du Québec à Montréal. Since 2015 director of the GEOTOP research center for the dynamics of the Earth system. He is specialist of isotope geochemistry having worked on noble gases, stable isotopes of (H, O, N, Cl, Br) and a little with radiogenic isotopes (Pb, Sr).
